I was told a story yesterday....Taxi operator went into McConechy's Stranraer for a test and was told his tyre tread depth was a PASS at 1.6mm. So why do McConechy's Dumfries FAIL a car with less than 3.0mm? The test tech. went on to say that he would lose his testers status if he FAILED a Cab with a tread between the two figures. So what is right? I went to the cabology website to check:
Q. What is the minimum legal requirement of a tyre tread depth?
A. 1.6mm across three quarters of the width of the tyre, around the entire circumference, with no cuts or bulges in the tyre wall.
I'd like to get to the bottom of this one as I've wasted a lot of tyres over the years if this is the case!
